In my experience affiliate marketing hits bigger profits than Adsense, but most people do it wrong.

1. choose a keyword phrase/topic focusing on a problem,
2. write about the solution,
3. recommend a product to solve the problem,
4. collect your commissions

1. Improve click through rates to push commissions: Without clicks there are no conversions and you won’t make any money.
2. Protect your commissions: Yes, there are people out there who will steal them if not protected with cloaked links. The easiest way to do this is through server redirects. The problem is it takes time and a bit of knowledge to do (I’ll give you an easy solution in a minute).
3. Get viral traffic to your pages: SEO is great, but slow. A much faster method is encouraging sharing with social share buttons. You get improved traffic now and social proof which search engines love for improved rankings. People do share products and helpful articles, so leverage that.
4. Don’t use banner ads: in affiliate marketing (in most cases). In content links work best and get higher clicks
5. Add Value: You must add value. If you forget value you will fail. This draws the users in, gives them what they want (the solution) and send awesome user metrics to Google which help you rank higher.
Get these five right and your profitability improves. Get them wrong and you are one of the ones left dreaming of the big commission check that is yet to come.
