New Twists On Old Methods
When Internet Marketing first came around, many of the marketing methods that were used evolved from offline marketing principles… They weren’t so much methods as they were philosophies. Here’s a couple of examples:
1) Giving away valuable and insightful information on your blog, shares the same philosophy as when stores used to give out Free Samples of new products… It shows confidence and legitimacy, while building trust, and compelling reciprocity (they’ll do business with you).
2) The old phrase ‘tell your friends’ was the best a business owner could once do to spread word of his store ‘virally’… and nowadays we have Facebook and Twitter. Yet it’s still all based on social proof and following the recommendation of someone you trust.
Updating ‘methods’ to adapt to the modern times, while sticking to these timeless philosophies will always put you ahead.

Although these free traffic methods are incredibly powerful, neither myself nor Jon advocate giving up on Google altogether. These methods are simply to help you pull in some pretty great traffic while you’re waiting for your SEO efforts to pay off.
